Chaque jour il y a plus de 200 000 nouvelles bouches à nourrir dans le monde, alors que plus d’un milliard d’hommes souffrent déjà de la faim. Devant l’ampleur de la malnutrition, notamment infantile, les stratégies d’aide alimentaire sont en train de changer : l’approche quantitative classique (le "sac de riz" distribué par les ONG) est de plus en plus remplacée par une approche qualitative basée sur des aliments transformés et fortifiés, à vocation d’abord thérapeutique. Ce virage vers une nourriture "augmentée" conçue en laboratoire définit de nouveaux enjeux politiques et ouvre de nouveaux marchés à l’industrie agro-alimentaire mondialisée.
