Morocco Gen Z Protests: Two Killed, Vehicles Burned Amid Deadly Unrest | Firstpost Africa | N18G
Gen Z-led anti-government protests in Morocco have rapidly descended into chaos and violence, with at least two people killed near Agadir after clashes with security forces on Wednesday (October 1). Police reportedly opened fire after demonstrators attempted to storm a police station. Violence has spread to cities including Salé, Rabat, Casablanca, and Tangier, where young men looted shops and set banks and police vehicles ablaze. The demonstrations, sparked by demands for better education and healthcare, turned violent on Tuesday (September 30). The interior ministry has reported over 400 arrests and nearly 300 injuries since the rallies began last week. Organised by the group named GenZ 212 via social media, protesters have called for the prime minister's resignation. Young Moroccans have been furious over corruption and the government's focus on pouring billions into hosting international sporting events such as the 2030 FIFA World Cup while neglecting vital public services.---
