Nazaré Paulista nasceu em 1676 com a construção de uma capela em louvor a Nossa Senhora de Nazaré pelo bandeirante Mathias Lopes.
Fundação e OrigemA Capela original: Mathias Lopes ergueu o templo que deu origem ao povoado, inicialmente ligado a Atibaia.
A lenda da santa: A tradição oral conta que o irmão de Mathias construiu outra capela a 5 km de distância e levou a imagem da santa para lá, mas ela retornou sozinha para o altar original de Mathias.
Cidade Presépio: A disposição das casas ao redor do morro lembra os presépios napolitanos, o que deu esse título tradicional à cidade.Emancipação e Crescimento
Emancipação política: O vilarejo virou município em 10 de junho de 1850, separado de Atibaia e Piracaia.Mudança de nome: A cidade se chamava apenas Nazareth, mas mudou para Nazaré Paulista em 1944.
Ciclo econômico: A região serviu de rota para bandeirantes e passou por um período de forte riqueza com a agricultura do café.
AtualidadeTurismo e natureza: Hoje, abriga a Represa Atibainha (parte do Sistema Cantareira) e foca no ecoturismo e turismo rural.
Culinária típica: O prato mais famoso da cidade é o afogadão, um cozido tradicional de carne com batatas servido em festas locais.
