L'Etna non smette di stupire e, in questi giorni di fine anno, riprende con vigore la sua attività stromboliana. Sulla bocca apertasi il 27 dicembre sull'alto fianco orientale del cratere Voragine, continuano le frequenti emissioni di cenere, che stanno alimentando una densa nube spinta dal vento verso il settore occidentale del vulcano. I getti di materiale piroclastico, spettacolari e potenti, raggiungono altezze fino a 100 metri sopra la bocca eruptiva.È quanto emerge dal bollettino più recente dell'Istituto nazionale di geofisica e vulcanologia (Ingv), Osservatorio etneo di Catania, che monitora h24 il "gigante addormentato" siciliano. Le immagini riprese dall'aereo da Gabriele Ferlazzo catturano l'alto pennacchio di fumo e ceneri che si leva sopra il cratere.L'attività in corso, classificata come stromboliana – caratterizzata da esplosioni ritmiche e fontane di lava – non desta al momento particolari preoccupazioni per le popolazioni limitrofe, ma l'Ingv invita alla prudenza. La nube di cenere, dispersa verso ovest dai venti prevalenti, potrebbe provocare leggeri disagi per i voli all'aeroporto di Catania e per le strade circostanti, con possibili ricadute di lapilli fini.
