دونالد ترامپ، رئیس‌جمهور ایالات متحده، قاطعانه می‌گوید که ایران به دنبال دستیابی به توافقی با آمریکاست، هرچند به روی خودش نمی‌آورد و از دید او یک چنین توافقی با تهران "کلید صلح در خاور میانه" خواهد بود.اما علی خامنه‌ای، رهبر جمهوری اسلامی ایران، می‌گوید: اگر آمریکا پشتیبانی خود را از اسرائیل به‌طور کامل قطع و پایگاه‌های نظامی خود را از منطقه جمع‌آوری کند و در امور آن نیز دخالت نکند، درخواست آمریکایی‌ها برای همکاری با ایران نه در آینده نزدیک، بلکه برای بعدها، قابل بررسی خواهد بود».
