Most Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in Bihar today seem to be in need of treatment themselves. In many places, emergency patients lie on verandas; in others, delivery services for pregnant women have been shut for years. Many PHCs are running with just one or two doctors responsible for thousands of patients, with no saline, no essential medicines, and crumbling infrastructure. In districts like Sitamarhi and Sheohar, patients are forced to travel 10–15 kilometers to reach district hospitals for basic care. The reality is stark — instead of healing people, Bihar’s primary health centres have themselves fallen sick, and the entire state is burdened by its collapsing healthcare system.
