Secondo le stime riprese da fonti internazionali, l'espansione dei data center legati all' #intelligenzaartificiale potrebbe generare un fabbisogno idrico equivalente a quello di oltre un miliardo di persone entro il 2030, con casi già documentati — come in Uruguay, dove nuovi impianti si sono sovrapposti a una siccità che aveva reso l'acqua potabile inaccessibile.
Sul fronte opposto, altre analisi ridimensionano l'impatto diretto negli Stati Uniti, attribuendo ai data center una quota marginale del consumo idrico nazionale e sottolineando i progressi dei sistemi di raffreddamento a circuito chiuso.
