Sheriff: Flock paves way for 'AI-driven surveillance state' but 'common sense policing' means viable
In Arizona earlier this year, Pinal County Sheriff Ross Teeple announced earlier the cancellation of the his office's contract with Flock, citing 4th amendment concerns with the company's Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) Cameras.Speaking at Congressional hearing, Teeple noted license plate readers can play a role in "common sense policing," but was clear that Flock cameras are a step too far.
"If we rely on pirate camera networks to act as a drag net, continuously logging the
habits of innocent Americans without a warrant, we are paving the way to an AI-driven surveillance state," Teeple said. "If we allow government funded private surveillance companies to push this envelope blindly, we risk a sweeping judicial correction that could strip
