Gulf states ‘damned either way’ in escalating US–Israel war on Iran, analyst says
Dania Thafer, executive director of the Gulf International Forum, says Gulf states face a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” dilemma as the escalating US–Israel war on Iran threatens their energy and water infrastructure.Speaking to Al Jazeera, Thafer said Gulf states see Israel and Iran as “two bullies” and are trying to balance between them and their US ally, leaving them focused on defence and de-escalation rather than joining the war. She warned that attacks on oil and desalination plants, and false claims that US strikes are launched from the Gulf, could eventually push Gulf states into the conflict.
