Yunarto menduga pertemuan tersebut juga menjadi upaya Jokowi untuk memperlihatkan masih memiliki pengaruh secara politik di Kabinet Merah Putih pimpinan Prabowo.
Namun, dia mengkritik pertemuan ini karena dinilai membahayakan demokrasi di Indonesia.
Kritikan itu atas dugaannya di mana pertemuan Prabowo dan Jokowi hanya membicarakan hal bersifat politis semata alih-alih terkait masalah bangsa.
"Tapi apakah ini baik untuk demokrasi? Menurut saya nggak juga. Saya berharap sebetulnya pertemuan presiden dan mantan presiden levelnya beda."
