The West Bengal government led by Suvendu Adhikari has approved the transfer of nearly 600 acres of land to the Border Security Force near the strategically vital Siliguri Corridor, also known as India’s “Chicken Neck.” This narrow corridor connects mainland India to the Northeast and shares proximity with Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and China’s sensitive Chumbi Valley.
The move is expected to strengthen border fencing, curb illegal infiltration, and enhance national security. Alongside the BSF land transfer, seven key highway stretches have also been handed over to central agencies like National Highways Authority of India and National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited to fast-track strategic infrastructure projects connecting West Bengal, Sikkim, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.
