En 1976, un coche explotó en el barrio diplomático de Washington. No era Beirut ni Bagdad: era la capital de Estados Unidos, y detrás del atentado estaba la policía secreta chilena de Pinochet. ¿Cómo es posible algo así? Porque existía el Plan Cóndor, y es exactamente tan brutal como suena.Seis dictaduras sudamericanas — Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia y Brasil — montaron a mediados de los 70 algo parecido a Interpol, pero para secuestrar, torturar y asesinar a sus propios opositores en cualquier país del mundo. Con agentes infiltrados en embajadas, comunicaciones protegidas, listas de objetivos y equipos que viajaban con documentación falsa. Sin que las fronteras fueran ningún obstáculo.
Lo que hace este caso todavía más alucinante es que Washington lo sabía. Los documentos desclasificados lo dejan clarísimo: la CIA estaba informada, y el propio Kissinger, secretario de estado en aquella época, dio el visto bueno con una frase que te va a dejar con la boca abierta.
Se calcula que el plan tuvo al menos 800 víctimas directas. Y la mayoría de los dictadores responsables murieron sin pisar un banquillo.
