El secretario general de la ONU, António Guterres, se mostró triste por el accidente aéreo del lunes en el que murieron el vicepresidente de Malawi y otras nueve personas, declaró el martes su portavoz adjunto, Farhan Haq, quien ofreció condolencias a las familias de los fallecidos. El vicepresidente de Malawi, Saulos Chilima, y otras nueve personas que iban a bordo de un avión militar fueron hallados muertos tras el accidente aéreo del lunes. El avión, perteneciente a las Fuerzas de Defensa de Malawi, no pudo realizar el aterrizaje previsto en el aeropuerto de Mzuzu en el norte de Malawi, según la secretaria del presidente y del Gabinete del país, Colleen Zamba, por lo que el avión regresó debido al mal tiempo y se dirigía al aeropuerto internacional de Kamuzu, en Lilongüe, antes de desaparecer del radar.
