Pasalnya, peran Trump menurut Olmert, sangat berpengaruh untuk menekan Perdana Menteri Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu.
Olmert menyatakan, Donald Trump memiliki kekuatan paling signifikan terhadap kebijakan Israel.
Bahkan, Trump lebih kuat dibanding gabungan kekuatan negara-negara lainnya.
“Trump bisa membuat perbedaan. Dia harus memanggil Netanyahu ke Ruang Oval, menatap kamera, dan mengatakan: ‘Bibi, sudah cukup,’” ujar Olmert, menggunakan nama panggilan Netanyahu.
Atas hal itu, Olmert meyakini Donald Trump bisa membuat perbedaan atas perang di Gaza.
Sebelumnya, Olmert mengecam kelanjutan operasi militer Israel di Jalur Gaza.
Pihaknya menyebut aksi Israel di Gaza sebagai kejahatan perang.
Menurutnya, perang ini seharusnya sudah diakhiri sejak Maret 2025 lalu.
Olmert menyebut, saat ada peluang untuk menghentikan konflik, PM Netanyahu justru memilih melanjutkan intensitas serangan.
Atas hal itu, menurutnya tindakan Netanyahu harus dikutuk.
“Jika ada perang yang tidak menyelamatkan sandera, tidak secara signifikan menghancurkan Hamas, dan hanya menyebabkan lebih banyak korban jiwa dari tentara, sandera, dan warga Palestina yang tidak bersalah, maka menurut saya ini adalah kejahatan,” tegas Olmert.
“Dan ini adalah sesuatu yang harus dikutuk dan tidak dapat diterima,” lanjutnya.
Terkini, Olmert menuduh Netanyahu gagal menjadi pemimpin karena tak mampu mencegah serangan Hamas pada 7 Oktober 2023.
Pihaknya menuding Netanyahu lebih mementingkan posisi politik pribadi daripada kepentingan nasional.
