Trump’s new law sends whole milk back to school cafeterias

Last week, President Donald Trump signed the ‘Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act’ into law. President Trump’s newest piece of legislation brings whole milk and 2% milk back into schools with fewer to no restrictions. "With this legislation, schools will finally be able to expand their offerings to include nutritious whole milk," the president said at the White House. "This is the perfect follow-up to the new Real Food pyramid." LiveNOW’s Shawna Khalafi and POLITICO food and agriculture policy reporter Grace Yarrow are discussing the updated dietary guidelines and how they relate to Trump’s call for more whole milk consumption.

According to President Trump, the bill will also allow parents to request milk substitutes, while a written statement from a doctor was previously required. "We're eliminating that rather ridiculous policy, allowing parents to choose what is best for their child, which is a big move," Trump said during the announcement.
