Sebelumnya, diketahui Iman pernah terlibat dalam Tim Kampanye Nasional (TKN) pemenangan Prabowo-Gibran di Pilpres 2024 lalu.
"Jadi memang relasi saya cukup banyak di Malaysia, Alhamdulillah saya dekat dengan Prabowo juga. Jadi untuk menjaga hubungan yang sudah dibina baik dengan Presiden kita hanya melanjutkan, memelihara lah," kata Iman Kusumo kepada awak media usai fit and proper test sebagai Calon Dubes RI, di Gedung Nusantara II, Kompleks Parlemen, Senayan, Jakarta, Minggu (6/7/2025).
Wakil Ketua Komisi I DPR Ri sekaligus Ketua Fraksi Partai Gerindra DPR RI Budi Satrio Djiwantoro memberikan respons, "kami tidak melihat seperti itu ya, kita melihat seluruh calon duta besar yang diajukan mempunyai kapasitas, jam terbang, track record yang baik," Minggu (6/7/2025).
