The war in Ukraine has now lasted longer than World War I. The First World War went on for 1,568 days from 1914 to 1918. As of June 11, the Russian war in Ukraine has now lasted 1,569 days and counting. The 'special operation' in Ukraine that was launched by Russia in February 2022 continues into its fourth year now. Meanwhile, losses on the battlefield pile on with estimates that almost 2 million people have been killed in the war. Despite the atrocities of war, neither Ukraine, nor Russia are looking to sit at the negotiating table. Instead, both sides are ramping up defence manufacturing and the procurement of weapons.
