Natl Guard Troops shot: Hegseth responds, orders 500 more troops to DC

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that President Trump has requested an additional 500 National Guard troops for Washington, D.C. following the shooting of National Guard members.

Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said the shooting "was targeted."

President Trump has been briefed on the shooting, calling the suspect an "animal" in a Truth Social post.

The Metropolitan Police Department in D.C. says the scene is secured, and one suspect is in custody. They're on the scene at 17th and I Street, near the Farragut West Metro Station.
