The Israeli government continues to accelerate the expansion of settlements in the occupied West Bank, which most countries consider a violation of international law. A UN report says the policy has displaced tens of thousands of Palestinians over the past year and a half.A group of former diplomats has signed an open letter warning that EU credibility — and prospects for a Palestinian state — are rapidly fading. They are calling for a ban on trade with settlements, sanctions on violent settlers, and a review of EU-Israel ties.
We spoke with one of the signatories, Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff, the former EU envoy to the Palestinian territories.
