LIVE | Sheikh Hasina Sentenced to Death: Dhaka Seeks Extradition From India | Vantage | Palki Sharma

A Bangladesh court has convicted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of "crimes against humanity" and sentenced her to death. The case involves alleged mass murder and use of lethal force during the student-led mass protests in Bangladesh last year, that ultimately lead to Hasina's ouster in August 2024. Dhaka-based International Crimes Tribunal has found her guilty of all the charges. Meanwhile, Hasina, who is currently in India, has rejected the verdict, calling it "politically motivated". Her party, the Awami League, has also called for a nationwide shutdown against the verdict. Hasina has also challenged the present Bangladeshi government to take the case to the International Criminal Court at The Hague. Meanwhile, under caretaker PM Muhammad Yunus, Dhaka has asked New Delhi to extradite Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh — reiterating the extradition treaty between the two nations. While New Delhi has acknowledged the trial verdict, it has so far made no comments on the extradition.
So, what lies ahead for the future of Bangladesh? How will the Awami League and their supporters respond to Hasina's conviction? And, will India send Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh? On Vantage tonight, Palki Sharma breaks it down to you.
