Siempre se ha dicho que el corazón es el órgano del amor, pero Aurelio Rojas explica que la relación entre emociones y corazón va mucho más allá de una metáfora. Los sentimientos tienen una base bioquímica y cerebral, y el corazón reacciona de forma inmediata ante la alegría, el miedo, la ansiedad, el estrés o la tristeza.
En esta pieza, el cardiólogo habla del síndrome del corazón roto, una respuesta del corazón ante un impacto emocional intenso. Puede aparecer tras una discusión, un enfado o una pérdida, y sus síntomas pueden parecer los de un infarto: presión en el pecho, fatiga y alteraciones en la contracción del corazón, aunque las arterias estén sanas.
Rojas recuerda que las emociones negativas, la tristeza y la soledad también pueden afectar a la función cardiaca a largo plazo. Por eso, cuidar el corazón no solo implica comer bien, hacer ejercicio y descansar: también significa rodearnos de las personas que queremos, aprender a abrazar, priorizar lo importante y recordar que estamos hechos para querer.
