Das Unternehmen kombiniert Software, Hardware und Datentechnik. Es arbeitet mit Volvo, FedEx und Uber zusammen. Zu den Gründern gehören frühere Führungskräfte aus den Bereichen autonomes Fahren bei Waymo, Tesla und Uber.
Erste Tests laufen zwischen Dallas und Houston. Die Lastwagen fahren dort nach Angaben von Moritz Seifert bereits weitgehend fahrerlos. Aurora baut keine eigenen Lkw. Das Unternehmen will seine Systeme anbieten und dafür monatliche Gebühren erhalten.
David Giroux von T. Rowe Price hält bei der Aktie eine Ver-25-Fachung für möglich. Er bezeichnet Aurora in diesem Bereich als Marktführer. Auch weitere Analysten bewerten die Aktie überwiegend positiv. Sieben raten zum Kauf, sechs zum Halten. Keiner empfiehlt den Verkauf. Das durchschnittliche Kursziel liegt laut Seifert 80 Prozent über dem aktuellen Preis.
Aurora Innovation schreibt derzeit noch hohe Verluste. Offen bleibt, ob der Pilotbetrieb zum Serienbetrieb wird und das Unternehmen sich gegen seine Konkurrenten durchsetzt.
