Semont Maneuver for BPPV Vertigo Treatment (Alternative to Epley Maneuver)
Perform Dix-Hallpike maneuver first to determine which side and what maneuver to use to treat BPPV: https://youtu.be/JGa-tfGOx80This video will demonstrate the Liberatory Maneuver, also known as a Semont Maneuver, for the treatment of posterior canal BPPV (0:31). Animation showing what is going on within the inner ear is also shown in the 2nd half of the video (1:39). In this video, the patient has a LEFT posterior canal BPPV. If the right ear is affected by BPPV, reverse the direction of the head and body turns.
The Semont maneuver is not considered to be as effective as the Epley maneuver, but for those who are not able to lay flat on the back due to pain, this maneuver can work quite well which involves laying only on the body’s side.
