Durante la cerimonia del Ventaglio, Sergio Mattarella ha richiamato la necessità di contrastare ogni forma di violenza, soffermandosi sui fatti avvenuti sabato in Val di Susa. «Quanto avvenuto - da ultimo - sabato in Val di Susa è inammissibile: sono chiamate in causa le basi stesse della convivenza democratica e non è accettabile alcuna esitazione né circospezione nel condannare e contrastare simili comportamenti aggressivi», ha affermato il presidente della Repubblica. Il capo dello Stato ha aggiunto: «La violenza è un virus letale per la democrazia e per la vita sociale. Aggredisce la Costituzione chi la pratica, chi la predica, chi la giustifica». Mattarella ha quindi denunciato «una sorta di rifiuto sdegnato non di condividere ma di ascoltare le opinioni altrui», avvertendo che da questo atteggiamento può nascere «un clima di reciproca intolleranza, di avversione fanatica che contribuisce a seminare germi di violenza».
