Backyard Ice Rink Build (Year 7) – The Weather Tried to Destroy It!

This is Year 7 of building our backyard hockey rink—and this season was a roller coaster. This video was created by DIY Pete and we call our rink build Project ODR ( OutDoor Rink ).

From warm weather and 60° days… to 70 mph winds, blowing leaves, and melting ice… this was one of the toughest rink builds we’ve ever had.

In this video, I’ll show you:

How we build our backyard rink step-by-step
The biggest challenges we faced this season
Upgrades like under-ice LED lights
How we maintain the ice
And why we keep building it every year

Even with all the challenges, getting the kids and family out on the ice makes it 100% worth it.

GEAR / MENTIONS:

NiceRink board system
52” rink resurfacer
Under-ice LED lighting setup
Power broom (game changer for maintenance)
