In un videomessaggio che accompagna il post, Starmer afferma che la mossa rientra in un processo volto a porre fine al conflitto a Gaza e a promuovere una pace duratura tra Israele e Palestina. Sebbene si tratti di una mossa prevalentemente simbolica è comunque un momento storico, poiché il Regno Unito gettò le basi per la creazione dello Stato di Israele quando, nel 1917, controllava quella che allora era conosciuta come Palestina.
