Turkish gendarmerie and special-operations police launched a major security operation in northwest Turkey after a clash with suspected Islamic State militants left seven police officers wounded. The overnight operation unfolded in Yalova province, south of Istanbul, where authorities sealed off roads, deployed helicopters, and rushed ambulances to the scene.
Turkey’s interior minister confirmed that six ISIS militants were killed during the operation. The clash comes just days after Turkish police detained 115 suspected Islamic State members accused of plotting attacks during Christmas and New Year celebrations, highlighting heightened security concerns ahead of the holidays.
