Bill Laimbeer Was Two Toes Away from Hitting 8 Threes in a Finals Game

June 7, 1990 - A stretch-five pioneer alongside Jack Sikma, legendary Detroit Pistons antagonist Bill Laimbeer rained hellfire upon the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 2 of the 1990 NBA Finals, connecting on six shots from deep and nearly eight altogether were it not for his tippiest of toes stepping upon the line. Laimbeer's five threes in the fourth quarter and overtime accounted for 15 of his 26 points (to go alone with 11 rebounds) in a 106-105 overtime loss. It would be the Pistons' only loss of the series.

Laimbeer tied a mark set by Michael Cooper, who initially set the record in Game 2 of the 1987 Finals when he hit six of seven from deep. Kenny Smith and Scottie Pippen would both best Laimbeer's record in the 90's by connecting on seven 3-pointers before Boston Celtics guard Ray Allen set the current record by hitting eight 3-pointers in Game 2 of the 2010 NBA Finals.
