Se han dado a conocer más detalles después de que China advirtiera a un avión filipino C-208, que entró ilegalmente en el espacio aéreo chino sobre Huangyan Dao el 18 de febrero. Las imágenes muestran que el avión filipino transportaba periodistas. La aeronave también realizó cambios erráticos de altitud y voló peligrosamente cerca de un helicóptero de patrulla chino.

El Comando del Teatro Meridional del Ejército Popular de Liberación de China ha criticado a Filipinas por distorsionar los derechos marítimos de China y lanzar campañas de difamación. Ha condenado las afirmaciones de Manila de que las acciones de China eran "peligrosas", y ha advertido de que tales tácticas fracasarían, con las fuerzas chinas en alerta máxima para defender la soberanía de China y la estabilidad regional.
