Miguel Alcubierre es físico teórico y está especializado en agujeros negros y ondas gravitacionales.
Apasionado de la ciencia ficción, este mexicano es mundialmente conocido por haber desarrollado un modelo matemático teórico que permitiría viajar más rápido que la luz (‘Métrica Alcubierre’) sin violar la ‘Teoría de la Relatividad General’ de Einstein. Una idea que se le ocurrió viendo la mítica serie de televisión ‘Star Trek’.
A su lado, el cine se convierte en la herramienta perfecta para hacer llegar a la sociedad complejos conceptos científicos, por ejemplo, la diferencia entre “Agujeros negros” y “Agujeros de gusano” a través de la película “Interestellar”.
Doctor por la Universidad de Cardiff, en la actualidad Miguel Alcubierre es investigador en el Instituto de Ciencias Nucleares de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). También es un gran defensor de la educación científica, que considera esencial para “comprender cómo se comporta el universo, pero también para entender mejor la sociedad tecnológica en la que vivimos”, concluye.
