In this video Matthew King discusses some of Leonard Bernstein's most famous contentious moments in orchestral rehearsals and masterclass.

The five examples come from the following events:
1. The 1988 conducting competition of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. The Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra was conducted by Marc Albrecht, Marin Alsop, Flavio Chamis, Sören Eckhoff, Jeffrey Goldberg, Oliver Holt, Steven Mercurio, Arthur Post, Carlos Spierer, Matthew Taylor, Stefan Tetzlaff and Leonard Bernstein.
2. Bernstein rehearses the 4th movement of Mahler's Song of the Earth with Christa Ludwig (Mezzo-Soprano) and the Israeli Philharmonic in 1972, prior to their famous recording.
3. Bernstein rehearses Elgar's Enigma Variations with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in 1982, prior to their famous recording of the work.
4. Bernstein rehearses the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra in Berlioz's Romeo & Juliet Symphony Op. 17 in 1989.
5. Bernstein rehearses 'Something's Coming' with José Carreras in New York in 1984, prior to the famous recording of West Side Story for DG.
6. Daniel Barenboim conducts the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in Beethoven's 7th Symphony at the BBC Proms, Royal Albert Hall, 24 July 2012.
