Имя Иеронима Босха, который так часто и изобретательно писал преисподнюю, не слишком ассоциируется с Рождеством. Тем не менее, он несколько раз изображал и новорожденного Христа, которому три волхва принесли дары. Но Босх не был бы собой, если бы у него этот сюжет не приобрел странные и даже зловещие черты!

За спинами главных персонажей, которых мы без труда узнаем, стоит бородатый мужчина, одетый в красный плащ на голое тело, в короне с колючками и с круглой раной на ноге. Под золотым даром старшего из волхвов притаились темные жабы, а на одежде слуги, который пришел с его младшим товарищем, вышиты пожирающие друг друга «твари»…

Все эти детали, каких мы не встретим у других художников того времени, говорят об одном: Спаситель, который явился в мир, сразу окружен врагами. Но кто они – приближенные царя Ирода или клевреты Антихриста? В чем состоит их сговор? Как толковать эту сцену и в целом, как смотреть образы, которые нам оставил Босх? Узнаем на лекции!
