Kings and Generals animated historical documentary series on modern warfare the Great War and the Ottoman history during the World War I. Previously we covered the Rise of the Ottoman Empire from the humble beginnings as a small Turkic Beylik to the Fall of Constantinople 1453 covering all the major battles including (https://youtu.be/TDLmsiqhgns) and the reign of Mehmet II (https://youtu.be/TbqMBfxtOTI). After the disasters at Gallipoli and Kut, Britain opened three new fronts against the Ottoman Empire. One would carry the Arab Revolt north through the Hejaz, another would drive across Sinai toward Jerusalem, and the third would target Baghdad. This episode follows Prince Faisal’s capture of Wajh and the growing campaign against the Hejaz Railway, where Arab fighters worked alongside British and French officers, including T. E. Lawrence. In Sinai, mounted troops captured Rafa and forced the Ottomans back into Palestine. But at Gaza, British confidence ran into a determined defence. The first assault came close to victory before a controversial withdrawal surrendered the ground already won. A second attack, backed by tanks, aircraft, warships, and gas shells, ended in another costly failure. Farther east, General Stanley Maude’s rebuilt army advanced methodically along the Tigris. After recapturing Kut, British forces outflanked the Ottoman positions, crossed the Diyala, and entered Baghdad on 11 March 1917. From railway raids in Arabia to trench warfare in Gaza and the fall of an imperial capital, the campaign revealed both Ottoman resilience and the growing danger surrounding the empire. The struggle for Jerusalem would come next, with even greater political, military, and symbolic stakes ahead.
