Republicans defended Turning Point USA at the June 9 SPLC hearing. Rep. Jasmine Crockett read its founder's words with no name, and they failed.At the June 9, 2026 House Judiciary hearing on the Southern Poverty Law Center, Rep. Lance Gooden named Turning Point USA among groups he said the SPLC wrongly brands, and Rep. Harriet Hageman named it again. Rep. Jasmine Crockett read three quotes to law professor Mary McCord with no names attached. McCord called them 'a racial stereotype' and the words of someone who 'still adheres to racist views.' Then Crockett revealed they came from Turning Point's founder, Charlie Kirk.
The video checks where each quote comes from: his own show, Turning Point's America Fest in December 2023, and an NBC News profile. At that same event, Kirk called Dr. King 'awful.' My read: these Republicans came to defend a brand, not a record.
