Disponible jusqu'au 17/09/2026Sur la porte de Brandebourg, à Berlin, une statue représentant la déesse de la paix dans un char porte en elle la relation autrefois mouvementée qui unit la France et l’Allemagne. Retour aux sources de l’œuvre.
L’original a été sculpté par Johann Gottfried Schadow en 1793, à la demande du roi de Prusse Frédéric-Guillaume II. Mais à peine terminée, cette œuvre surmontant la porte de Brandebourg et montrant une déesse de la paix triomphante emmenée par un attelage de quatre chevaux disparaît : en 1806, après la victoire de la France contre l’armée prussienne, Napoléon décide de démonter le quadrige pour l’emporter à Paris. Une humiliation pour les Berlinois, qui passent alors quotidiennement près de la porte nue. En 1814, la Prusse et ses alliés parviennent à renverser l’empereur français et à prendre Paris. Le cortège sculpté regagne Berlin, où il devient un emblème de la victoire sur l’ennemi. Détruite pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, la statue a été reconstruite en 1969 à Berlin-Ouest, pour trôner à nouveau sur la célèbre porte, symbole d’une Allemagne divisée puis réunifiée.
