Sono le domande che aprono una riflessione articolata su uno dei termini più usati — e più fraintesi — del dibattito pubblico contemporaneo. Un'analisi che parte da una distinzione fondamentale: libertà e liberismo non sono la stessa cosa.
Molte persone si dichiarano liberiste, o addirittura libertarie, convinte che queste etichette abbiano a che fare con la libertà personale. In realtà, come ricorda Giorgio Gaber nella sua celebre canzone, "la libertà non è stare sopra un albero". La #libertà autentica è partecipazione: essere liberi non significa fare tutto ciò che si vuole calpestando i diritti degli altri, come se si fosse soli nell'universo. Quello è, semmai, l'esempio estremo del libertarismo più sfrenato.
Il liberismo, invece, non riguarda la libertà personale: riguarda i mercati. È una dottrina economica, non una filosofia della libertà individuale. E proprio per questo, paradossalmente, non è nemico della libertà: è nemico della partecipazione e della mutualità.
