El vuelo MU745, operado por China Eastern Airlines, despegó del Aeropuerto de Pudong en Shanghai. Tras una escala técnica en Auckland, Nueva Zelanda, completó un viaje de alrededor de 25 horas con 282 pasajeros a bordo hasta el Aeropuerto Internacional Ministro Pistarini de Ezeiza, en la provincia bonaerense.
