Youth-led demonstrators assembled outside Antananarivo’s city hall on Tuesday (October 14), a day after President Andry Rajoelina said he had relocated for his safety amid warnings of a coup plot. The protesters, waving flags and holding placards, dismissed his televised speech as “propaganda” and renewed calls for his resignation.The protest follows weeks of unrest sparked by water and power shortages, which have since grown into broader demands for reform and accountability. Rajoelina reportedly left the country aboard a French military aircraft on Sunday, after elite military unit CAPSAT declared support for the demonstrators and announced a new army chief. In his speech, the president warned of an attempt to seize power and called for dialogue to prevent further escalation.
