Kings and Generals began remaking its animated historical documentary on the history of the Ottoman empire. The first season covered the Rise of the Ottoman Empire from the humble beginnings as a small Turkic Beylik to the Fall of Constantinople 1453 covering all the major battles (https://youtu.be/TDLmsiqhgns), while the second season covered the reign of Mehmed II (https://youtu.be/spikLEMFZTo). In 1499, after nearly twenty years of uneasy peace, the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Venice returned to war for control of the eastern Mediterranean. Under Sultan Bayezid II, the Ottoman state had recovered from decades of conflict and was ready to challenge Venice at sea. At the center of this new struggle stood Kemal Reis, a feared corsair-turned-admiral whose fleet carried the ambitions of a rising naval empire. This episode follows the road to the Battle of Zonchio, one of the first major naval battles shaped by gunpowder artillery. As Antonio Grimani led the Venetian fleet into battle, confusion, hesitation, and rivalry among Venetian commanders turned the clash into disaster. The death of Burak Reis and Andrea Loredan in a fiery explosion shocked both fleets, but Venice failed to seize the moment. After Zonchio, Ottoman victories at Lepanto, Modon, Coron, Navarino, and Durrës shattered Venetian power in the Morea. The war marked a turning point: the Ottomans were no longer just a land empire — they had become a true Mediterranean naval power.
