«Oggi i giudici prendono un'altra decisione che lascia letteralmente senza parole: hanno condannato lo Stato italiano a risarcire con 76mila euro, sempre degli italiani, la ong proprietaria della nave capitanata dalla Rackete, perché dopo lo speronamento ai danni dei nostri militari l'imbarcazione era stata, giustamente, trattenuta e posta sotto sequestro» dice Giorgia Meloni in un video pubblicato sui suoi canali social in serata. «Ora mi chiedo – dice la premier – il compito dei magistrati è far rispettare la legge o premiare chi si vanta di non rispettare la legge?».Il tribunale di Palermo ha stabilito che la Ong Sea Watch dovrà essere risarcita dallo Stato per oltre 76mila euro per il fermo subito dalla nave Sea Watch 3, nel giugno del 2019. L'episodio fa riferimento al caso legato all'allora comandante della nave Carola Rackete, che il 29 giugno di quell'anno forzò il blocco navale di Lampedusa per far sbarcare 42 migranti nell'isola. Adesso lo Stato dovrà risarcire le spese patrimoniali documentate, sostenute tra ottobre e dicembre del 2019, quindi spese portuali e di agenzia, carburante per mantenere la nave attiva, e spese legali.
