Court suspends Thailand’s PM pending case over leaked phone call
Thailand's top court has suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from office, plunging the country into political uncertainty once again.The Constitutional Court's decision comes after 36 senators petitioned for her removal, alleging a violation of the constitution stemming from a leaked phone call with Cambodia's Senate President Hun Sen.
This marks the latest in a series of judicial interventions that have removed democratically elected officials in recent years, including the disqualification of the party that won the last election and its leaders.
The suspension has reignited concerns about political stability in Southeast Asia's second-largest economy, with thousands having taken to the streets calling for Shinawatra's resignation over border disputes with Cambodia and economic concerns.
