Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day state visit to the Maldives. He is invited to be the “guest of honour” at the Maldives' 60th Independence Day celebrations. The visit also marks 60 years of India-Maldives ties. Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu hosted a banquet in PM Modi’s honour. The duo discussed various issues. The talks focused on enhancing cooperation in areas of trade, defence and infrastructure. PM Modi hailed the ties between India and the Maldives. The beginning of free trade agreement negotiations was also announced during talks. India extended the Line of Credit (LoC) of ₹4,850 million ($565 million) to the Maldives. India also reduced the annual debt repayment obligations of the Maldives. New Delhi said that India and the Maldives signed MoUs for digital transformation. PM Modi's visit marks a major reset in India–Maldives ties that soured after pro-China Muizzu took office in 2023.---
