Saudi Arabia intercepts drones from Iraq as Houthis hit oil facilities as Riyadh vows to respond
Yemen's Ansar Allah group, commonly referred to as the Houthis, say they've targeted more Saudi energy facilities, hitting crude oil transport infrastructure with drones.The Saudi Defence Ministry says it has also had to intercept and destroy drones coming from Iraq, blaming armed groups allied with Iran and insisting it reserves the right to respond.
This marks the first time the Houthis have targeted oil transport infrastructure in eastern Saudi Arabia, specifically the Petroline—a 1,200 km pipeline stretching from the country's eastern oil fields to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, which exports a maximum of 5 million barrels per day.
Saudi Arabia has relied heavily on the port of Yanbu and this pipeline since the disruption from the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi Arabia's response could include targeting the port of Hodeidah, the island of Kamaran, and Sanaa International Airport.
However, the Houthis say Saudi attacks have only impacted public installations and civilian infrastructure, not their military capability, as evidenced by their continued daily attacks.
