FEUERINFERNO IN GRIECHENLAND: Zwei Löschhubschrauber kollidieren – Brandwalze rollt unerbittlichSchwere Waldbrände wüten weiter in Griechenland. Mehr als 10.000 Hektar Wald sind bereits zerstört. Hunderte Feuerwehrleute kämpfen gegen die Flammen. Doch sie können die Brände kaum stoppen.
Nahe Athen kollidierten zwei Löschhubschrauber. Einer der Helikopter stürzte ab und ging in Flammen auf. Zwei Besatzungsmitglieder starben. Die Piloten des zweiten Hubschraubers meldeten sich unmittelbar danach bei der Feuerwehrzentrale. Bei Psatha begann eine große Suche.
Der Zusammenstoß ereignete sich im Einsatzgebiet des Brandes bei Porto Germeno. Die Region liegt 60 Kilometer westlich von Athen. Das Feuer wütet dort an drei Fronten. Heftiger Wind erschwert die Löscharbeiten. Böen erreichen mehr als 73 Kilometer pro Stunde. Die Ausbreitungsrichtung lässt sich nur schwer bestimmen.
Mehr als 100 Häuser sind bereits verbrannt. Viele Bewohner verlieren ihre Heimat. Während die Einsatzkräfte die Brände auf Kreta langsam unter Kontrolle bringen, brechen andernorts neue Feuer aus. Auf der Touristeninsel Kefalonia beginnen die Behörden mit der Evakuierung.
