Sinai Utara merupakan salah satu wilayah yang berbatasan dengan Israel.
Pengerahan ribuan tentara di area perbatasan itu dilakukan Mesir di tengah tindakan Israel yang terus berusaha mengusir warga Palestina.
Dilansir dari Middle East Monitor pada Rabu (27/8), pengerahan jumlah personel ini melampaui kesepakatan damai Mesir-Israel pada 1979 atau yang dikenal dengan perjanjian Camp David.
Dalam perjanjian itu, Sinai terbagi menjadi beberapa Zona dengan pengerahan pasukan dan persenjataan yang sangat terbatas.
Sumber itu mengatakan bahwa dikerahkannya 40 ribu pasukan ke Sinai menunjukan bahwa Mesir saat ini dalam kondisi siaga tinggi.
"Tentara Mesir saat ini dalam siaga sangat tinggi kami menyaksikan dalam beberapa tahun," kata sumber itu.
Ribuan tentara Mesir saat ini ditempatkan di sejumlah pos wilayah Sinai Utara.
Pengerahan pasukan itu dilakukan sesuai dengan arahan Presiden mesir Abdel Fattah El Sisi selaku panglima tertinggi militer.
El Sisi menilai, Israel sedang berusaha mengusir warga Gaza dari tanah air mereka.
