Le proposte che arrivano, non semplicemente dai partiti, ma dalle categorie e chiaramente anche dalle Regioni e dai Comuni sono molto al di sopra di quelle che sono le disponibilità di un bilancio che comunque deve tener conto della realtà e della realtà geopolitica che ha condizionato pesantemente questi anni, ma che sta condizionando pesantemente anche i bilanci di famiglie, imprese e amministrazioni pubbliche in questi mesi. Noi teniamo conto in modo assai realistico della situazione – ha proseguito – e credo che nessuno possa accusare questo governo di avere presentato in questi quattro anni delle previsioni ottimistiche o prive di fondamento per quanto riguarda l’andamento dell’economia e della finanza pubblica. Al contrario, abbiamo sempre avuto un atteggiamento onesto e che alla prova dei fatti ha dimostrato di essere non soltanto condiviso, ma addirittura apprezzato da tutti gli osservatori. E quindi anche in questo momento faremo così, perché questo è assolutamente importante e soprattutto, come ho sempre osservato, per un Paese che ha un debito pubblico delle proporzioni uniche nel mondo. Quindi, tenuto conto di tutto questo, io credo che alla fine, per come si sta definendo il quadro, avremo dato una risposta alle cose più importanti, più urgenti. Certamente non avremo fatto tutto, ma avremo fatto quello che appunto è possibile in questa situazione”.
