Louisville plane crash: Raw footage captures moment UPS cargo flight crashes after takeoff

A UPS cargo plane caught fire and lost an engine after takeoff in Louisville, crashing into businesses and killing at least 12 people, including a child. Footage shared to Facebook by Kentucky Truck Parts and Service, captures the moment flight 2976 bound for Honolulu, with three crew onboard, crashed shortly after taking off from Louisville International Airport. In the post, the business labeled it a “tragic day,” adding the plane made impact just 500 feet away from its property.

More footage captured by Leirim Rodrigues, who was in the car with her husband when they witnessed the crash, shows an inferno raging at the site, sending thick smoke plumes skyward. “My husband said to me, ‘look how beautiful the plane looks,’ because it was flying very low to the ground,” she told Storyful. “Next moment, it turned and crashed. Everything happened so fast, we started screaming and I filmed the footage.” More Video filmed by several others show the tower of smoke billowing from the crash site in the distance.

Satellite imagery captured reveals the trail of devastation after the UPS airplane crashed. The before-and-after photos from Vantor, a satellite and data intelligence company, show a large path of scorched debris and burned out vehicles at an industrial area just south of the airport, and a 295-foot gash on the top of a UPS warehouse that was struck by the plane as it came down. Another video, sent to Storyful by Flightradar24, shows flight 2976 taxiing along on the runway, before taking off and crashing just outside the airport moments later.
