L’italia è il terzo più grande importatore di carne di squalo a livello mondiale: tra il 2009 e il 2021, il nostro Paese ha importato circa 98mila tonnellate di prodotti derivati da questo pesce. Nei supermercati italiani, infatti, è facile trovare tranci di verdesca (blue shark), palombo (smooth-hound) e smeriglio (shortfin mako). Mangiare la carne di squalo non è vietato dalla legge, ma la pesca intensiva ne sta riducendo drasticamente la popolazione, alterando l’equilibrio marino.
