What shapes our everyday decisions? | Dr. Khai Win | TEDxKew

Have you ever reacted in a way that surprised you?

A small comment. A certain tone. A delayed reply. Suddenly, the moment feels bigger than it should. You get defensive. You shut down. You say something you wish you could take back. Later, you wonder, "Where did that come from?"

In this TEDx talk, neuroscientist Dr. Khai Win invites us to think again about our most automatic reactions. What if that moment you wish you could take back does not mean you are too emotional, too sensitive, or out of control? What if your brain was running an old pattern it learned from past experience?

Blending personal story with accessible neuroscience, Dr. Khai explores why some conversations feel personal before we even know why, moving us from self-blame to curiosity, and from old patterns to conscious choice.
This talk is for anyone ready to understand themselves differently. The Most Dangerous Software today Isn't AI.

Dr. Khai Win holds a PhD in neuroscience, specialising in how memory forms and breaks down, particularly in people living with dementia. After years in research and academia, she transitioned into data science, using technology to uncover hidden patterns behind business decisions.

Her perspective shifted when she recognised that a seemingly small reaction in her own life was being driven by an experience from more than a decade earlier. Despite studying memory for years, she was surprised by the influence the past still held.

That experience led her to explore a powerful question: who, or what, is really making our decisions?

In her TEDx talk, Dr. Khai combines neuroscience and personal insight to show how understanding the patterns running beneath our behaviour can help us respond more consciously and create meaningful change. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx Receive SMS online on sms24.me
