Kelas A sampai D dibagi sesuai dengan kemampuan siswanya, dan kelas D adalah kelas buangan tempat berkumpulnya siswa yang disebut "produk cacat". Karena hidup mencela diri sendiri selama satu bulan setelah pendaftaran, mereka gagal dalam evaluasi sekolah dan poin senilai 100.000 yen yang seharusnya mereka dapatkan setiap bulan pun tidak diberikan. Kelas-D dipaksa untuk hidup miskin, dan dihimbau aturan ketat bahwa jika mendapat nilai merah dalam ujian selanjutnya, maka murid tersebut akan dikeluarkan dari sekolah. Sementara itu, Horikita yang tidak puas dirinya ditempatkan di kelas D, bertujuan untuk menaikkan Kelas D menjadi Kelas A. Ayakoji yang akan membantunya sedari nol. Tantangan pertama adalah lulus UTS tanpa mendapat nilai merah.
